Happens all the time (especialy if you're running 11's)

Had a buddy with a 4 cyl, Mustang that the whole friction disc came off the hub. Make it *slightly* difficult to shift.

Clutches tend to be suprisingly fragile, hence some of the more stringent safety requirements(blow proof bellhousing, tranny blanket ect) as you go fast at the strip. It looks like you got lucky it didn't blow thrugh your bellhousing!
