7.5" rear-end swap out?!!?
A couple of yearsago I was given an '84 camaro (V8 base model). I did it up w/ a '92 Z28 nose and ground effects, put late model 3rd gen. 16" wheels on it, full exhaust with gutted cat. and coated headers, and popped a 355ci. engine and rebuilt 700R4. The car was a lot of fun. I am kickin' myself because I sold it while it was emissions exempt. I did get $2500.00 for it minus the motor though. I concentrated my efforts on my '67 Nova. However I missed the car so much I just bought a '91 RS w/ 305ci. and a 5spd. The last car I swapped the open drum rear for a disk break rear from an '87 Z28 car. Thw swap was simple and cool cause I got the 4 disks after that, but it really wasn't any stronger a rear. What I am looking to do now w/ the '91 is place in a TPI 355ci. engine and retain a 5 speed (aftermarket). The rear doesn't need to be really strong, but needs to handle a respectable 350 to 375HP and similiar torque output. I am looking just to build a dependable "FUN" driver that makes theseat smack your @ss whn you punch the gas. I haven't any need here for a 9" or 12 bolt... that would be total overkill. I don't mind spending a grand or so to beef up a good factory 10 bolt. I just don't think the 7.5" is even worth messing with, and I also don't want to do many mods to get another rear to fit. So here (FINALLY) is my question:
Can a 4th gen. rear bolt up to a 3rd gen F-body? and If not... why? Would it gust be a matter of torching the existing brackets off the rear and adjusting them? Also, am I being to critical of the 7.5" rear? With a good aftermarket posi set would it be fine w/ this much power? I just want rear disk brakes, with about a 3.73 gear (max.), and know that it isn't going to break with the occasional clutch dump. Slicks will never see this car either. I would rather spend money on the linking bars and suspension components than a beefy rear. Any sugestions? Has anyone heard or tried a 4th gen. rear swap?
I know it is probably really easy to post a reply here, but if you could e-mail me at mercury267@juno.com that would be great.
Thanks for reading this book of question!

besides having been covered a lot and having to read through way too much fluff to get to your question a 4th gen rear will be a direct bolt in, only thing is it's about an inch wider per side and you'd end up with the same 7.5 ten bolt you already have.
