Transmission: T-5
Lookin into a transmission, Need help and advice on a manual.

ok, im lookin into transmissions. I just dropped my engine in my car, and i have a NWC T5.

I put in a SBC 350, 30 over, with intake, heads, carb, distributer, cam, ignition, etc... Good for atleast 330hp, if not more, and im not done (but who ever is). I also have plans on building a blown 383 (supercharged, not blown up yet. ) in the next year.

Im not dumb to think my stock tranny is going to hold up to a good launch on slicks, but what will?

I hope to eventualy get an engine in my car around 450-500hp at the crank. I will be running atleast 3.73 rear end, if not higher.

Im currently running my stock 3.73 rear, on street tires.

Now, im not scared of a little fab work, but i would like to keep it to a minimum.

Im realy leaning towards a T-56, but ive seen threads about a certain T-5 thats suposedly stronger. I typicaly browse forums around 2-4 AM, and dont remember half the stuff i read.

Can anyone give me any info about this T5 if you know what im talking about?

Also, what are your opinions on the Tremec T-56 ment for the 3rd gens? Is it worth the money, or is it just as easy to put on a t-56 ment for 4th gens? I know you have to use an adaptor plate, and shorten the drive shaft, and torq arm, and use a diffrent crossmember for both of them, but is the 4th gen transmission casting a real problem, or cause a problem with shifter location, compared to the Tremec 3rd gen t56?

Also, i know that the tremec kit is ment to bolt onto the stock T-5 bell housing, but why cant i use a t-56 bell housing? I think i read something about it using a pull clutch. Does it use the same master cylander? Would it be easy enough to swap out slave cylanders?
If i can use a T-56 bell housing, do i still need to do the rest of the mods, like the cross member, driveshaft, torq arm, etc? And would the shifter still line up? Also, will i need a new clutch ment for the T-56 setup?

I would just rather spend a few bucks on a transmission, to never have to worry about it, or just worry about it alot less.

Thanks. And if all these questions have been awnserd in other threads, point me the way.

If you want a manual that is bullet proof and can use the stock thirdgen manual equipment. Get a Tremec TKO 5 spd. Don't have to cut the shifter hole or anything. I wouldn't bother with a beefed up t-5 (G-force makes those). Either get the t-56 if you wanna do a little fab work, or get a tremec tko for a 100% bolt up project.
