Trans crossmember problem

I just replaced the trans mount and discovered that the driver's side bolts for the trans crossmember do not tighten up all the way. The bolts aren't stripped but when they are tightenened in the frame, they just keep spinning when they reach the end. The holes in the frame must be messed up. Any fixes to this problem?

Thanks, MC

Add some washers, or get shorter bolts? I don't really understand how the bolts can just start spinning...there isn't much thread for them to go into...

maybe not the ideal solution but....weld it on. If you have to remobe the crossmember again you can grind the welds off. 1 of my bolts is doing simmilar things to what you are saying and I think i'll just weld it on a little. I never have to remove it anyway.

Thanks for the feedback,

Well welding it on will surely fix the problem but is there a less drastic solution? Can I drill the holes to a bigger size and change the bolt size? I'm just trying to figure out why the two bolts don't tighten up. Did the threads in the frame rot out or what?

What is the worst case scenario if one side of the crossmember bolts pop out while driving? Tranny in the gutter?

just drill them one size bigger and run a tap through them and get a larger bolt thats the easiest and best way to do it.
