ok , i went for a drove today , this is the first time the tranny has ever acted wierd may i add. Im driving and the car seems like it wont engage till 3000 when im in od. SO ill shift into 3rd to see if it helps and then in like goes into second, it has been very erradic, I thought ok maybe im outta tranny fluid, i get home and check it , its black and smells burnt. Whats wrong, is the tranny shot, i didnt think it would be , its only got 55xxx miles. But its definately f'd up. Help.

Do simple things first...change the fluid and filter and see if that helps. Check the new fluid every so often to make sure it is still good, if it is black and smells burnt then something could be wrong.

yeah , i didnt want to hear that , last year i had to replace the gasket since it was leaking and its a pain in the *** to do it. BUt i might have to . i wish i put a drian plug in . O well. If this tranny is shot can i put a t56 front a 94-97 trans am or camaro. I have an 85 tpi 305.

You could do that...but you will have to run all of the hydraulic lines and decide what will have to be done in order to run the clutch pedal.

Do you drag race a lot? If so...it would be in your best interest to keep the 700r4 and have it rebuilt. T-56 cars may run faster in the 1/4, but the automatics are more consistant.

well , im more interested in autocrossing the car. I will still drag race it , but i want to have a 6 speed. But the t56 will bolt up to the engine.

Black tranny fluid screams rebuild me soon.
