T56 Wiring help
Guys,
Ive got my new aftermarket T56 ready to go in and ive bought new connectors for the lockout switch and the other i assume is the reversing lights.
Can you confirm this and tell me where to run the wires from the reverse lockout.

yeah its new.
OK i understand about the wiring but what actually operates the lockout when you are driving?where do the wires go.They can just go to + and - they need a switch somewhere surely

heres how it works:
see that little pin in the box where the shifter goes? its the reverse lockout.
when you push the stick to the right, it moves that piece in the trans to the left... hitting the pin.
that pin is the lockout.
now if you push HARD you can push thru the pin. and goto reverse... but if you apply power to that connector, it will allow the pin to retract and you can effortlessly shift into reverse.
mine is wired as follows:

so are you saying then that a switch on the brake pedal operates the lockout, which means that in theory you can only get reverse easily when the brake pedal in pressed

yes. thats how i wired mine.
you must have the brake on and push the button to shift into reverse.... my car has been that way for over a month and a half and its totally natural now... its a good saftey measure in my opinion.
there is no stock way to wire it. 3rdgens dont have electrical reverse lockouts.
the switch on the pedals is just the stock brake switch.
its pressed in when the brake pedal is at the top.(not pressed)
when the brake pedal is pressed, the switch pops out and applys 12v out of the two outside pins. one side goes to the brake lights on the edges, the other side goes into the 3rd brake light.
i wired mine into the one that goes into the 3rd brake light. you can tell what ones by having someone look at the lights and jumping the middle pin to one of the side pins. i cant give it as a left side or right because the switch can spin 360* (and i dont recall the colors)

Dude,
Is there any point in wiring in the brake switch. If you have to press a switch as well, you may as well just have one switch and not bother linking it into the brake pedal switch

you can use any 12v power source you want (fused of course)
but i like my method because it requires you to be stopped (brakes on) before you can shift into reverse.
the stock 4thgen setup requires you to be under 5mph before the computer unlocks it.
you can use your own switch wired to the fuse box if you desire.
