torque specs

I noticed there was a small leak around my transmission pan so I changed the gasket. I must have over tightened it and smashed the gasket because now the fuild pours out. Is there any certain specs I need to torque it too?

Thanks,
Joe

Make sure to clean both surfaces very well and ensure there is no oil on them (use some brake cleaner on a paper towel)... Then put it together with just a gasket (no sealer, and the rubber gaskets work best if you do the prep right). Then torque to 12 ft lbs (seems small, but overtightening can squeeze the gasket out)...
