two questions , is it hard to change to an aftermarket shifter once the t56 is installed, and should i learn to drive stick with the stock shifter or go with some aftermarket shifter. I think the pro 5.0 shifter looks pretty good but i dont have any exp with it so i dont know.

no its not hard.

remove the top plate of the console
remove the shifter to floor boot.
undo 4 screws... the old shifter slips out.

grease and slip the new one in according to the directions.

its super easy, you can sit in the drivers seat and do it.

as for your 2nd question, if you're learning to drive stick, it doesnt really matter what shifter you have.. athough it is easier to screw up with the stocker then a good aftermarket one..

I'm gonna second what Mr_dude said, it's easy to switch once in the car.

There's a guy on ebay selling a chrome "shorty" shifter for about 20bucks, I love mine. It eliminates the rubber stock piece and shortens the shifter while saving about 140.00 over many of the shifters out there. The stock T56 shifter is wayyy too long in a thridgen, they look ridiculous even after cutting some off of my stock t56 shifter it was still too long. The 20.00 short shifter does not change the stock t56 shifter base, it does get rid of the rubber bushing and 99% of the slop in the stock shifter. IMO- For Twenty dollars its worth a shot before dropping 160 on some of the others out there and I'm speaking from some experience I have driven a couple T56's stock and my car after the chrome short shifter. Most people with the aftrmrkt base dont adjust the stops from the factory anyway..

Here you go...

Check his feedback (I'm in there someplace..page 12.. lol) was one of the first to buy them when he started making them. For around 25.00 shipped I'd go this route again, if you don't really like it then I'm sure you could re-sell it and get a true aftmrkt one.

ok , its easy to do , and its harder to mess up with a pro 5.0 . Im thinkin i want it. How tall is the handle gonna be on it. I dont want it being too high.

well i sorta did, ive driven my dads 77 ta 4 times, its nice to drive 462 poncho, 4 speed and 4.10 gears . But im not sure if i should get a pro 5.0 or wait. i like the idea of doing it when i put it in, but i dont wanna have it adjusted wrong and be pissed when i go to drive it.
