need rear end help

i have an 86 firebird with the 2.8 open rear with drums.
last weekend i spun around into a curb snapping the drivers side axle. there is a junkyard near me selling you pull it rear ends for 40 bucks, what should i get =) i looked today and saw a few 4th gens and a number of third gens all the third gens i saw didnt have posi or a 9 bolt but i can look some more.

anyway i was wondering what would be the best choice to pull? i plan on putting a gn motor in it in about 2-3 months so i want something i can at least build up but for 40 bucks i wont bitch at whatever i get. 4th gen? 3rd gen? s-10? any suggestions would be appreciated.

sorry for the rambling

least amount of problem to over come would be replace it with a like rear from a similar car. strength wise a 9 bolt or a dana 44 (good luck)
