i did this about 3 times last year . It takes about 2 hrs to take it out. And about 4 hrs to get everything back and running, including bleeding the brakes and hooking up the e brake cables. I could do it by myself now. I learned how to do it more than i wanted to . Its really easy . Take the ebrakes off, disconnect the brakes at the rubber fitting. Take the u bolts off to get the ds out. Take the panhard bar off, unbolt the lcas and then the shocks, and then pull the rear end out while its on a jack . Its not that bad. U could definatley switch one out in 8 hrs or less unless you run into problems with the u joints and connecting the brakes.

Both rears had e-brake cables already for me. Took me 4 hours, including changing the gear lube in the rear going in, working by myself except for bleeding the brakes.

I took off my ebrakes. I never use them anyways. I have to switch over my brakes and druma and one wheel cylinder. So itll take me like 10 hours or so??

Whenever I have swap rears, I leave the brakes with the car. Meaning that I disconnect the brake lines from the cylinders then remove the backing plates from the axle housing, leaving the e-brake cable hooked up Then swap the rears and bolt everything back up and bleed the brakes. Very simple process (untill the beer runs out)

i would have done that normally but i went from a 9 bolt with disc brakes to a chrysler 83/4 with drums. I i couldnt just do that . I think that if i did another rear end in a car i would put in a 4th gen rear . The rear end i have is way overkill. But at least it wont break.

by myself with hand tools, ive done it SEVERAL times in the past few weeks.

im doing it AGAIN tonight for a friend...

the first time i did it, it took about 3hours... i started at 7pm as soon as i got home with the rear.. i skipped dinner and by 11oclock i went inside and watched adult swim. (cartoon network 11 eastern/pacific )

2nd time and afterward, i had it down to about 2 and a half hours..

this is the order i do stuff in to make it easy:

with the rear in the air and jackstands supporting the chassis (i usually have them on the LCA mounting cup part...)

undo the driveshaft (11mm)
set it out of the way so it wont get dented.
disconnect the ebrake cables from the trans tunnel. the clips holding the cable to the car are a pain, i use a pair of pliers to push and a small screwdriver to slip the pins inward (you'll see what i mean)

before you start, note how the rear springs sit so you can index them the same way.

stick the jack under the rear end and just put some load on it... dont raise the car up, butsupport the rear with the jack... unbolt the TQ arm, LCA from the rear end, and finally the shocks.. the shocks are what keep the rear from falling farther down when you lift the car...

now that most everything is off, lower it slowly, and the springs will almost fall off.....
at this point, the only thing holding it on the car is the brake line...

bring your new rear close.. set a couple rags under the brake line fitting... then undo the brake line, pull the old rear out on the jack, set the new rear on the jack, roll it under and reconnect the brake line.
goal being to not drip a ton of brake fluid where you have to work... if you're lucky, the rags cought the fluid, you can put them aside, and continue working.

everything bolts up the same as it came off
