It is called the PARK/LOCK control cable and as RB83L69 has said, it prevents the gear selector lever from moving unless the key is in the lock cylinder and it is turned to "ON" position. By the same token, it prevents the key from being turned to the "OFF" position and removed if the gear is in any position other than Park or Neutral.

When you install the megashifter that becomes useless. So you can take your car in and out of park even without the key in the ignition.
So I guess if you parked in a huge lot dead smack in the middle someone could come, break the window and load your car on a flatbed lol.

im wondering if you could take a close up shot of the relay all the wiring is connected too. i also have a mega shifter and can't get the reverse lights to go out. i think i may have soldered a wire on the wrong pin. i want to get the damn thing working before i put all my interior back in.
