My shifter has ZERO tension. It just moves smoothly up and back, but does not affect the transmission.

The button has no effect either. Whether pushed or not, the shifter slides loosely back and forth.

Meanwhile, the transmission is stuck in reverse. Any ideas? This is a daily driver.

First thing I would check is the shift cable. They slip off sometimes
