Help me out here guys, I have an 83 recaro T/A with a strange knocking noise. I have checked and checked and it seems to be the torque convertor or tranny? It knocks like an obstruction yet there is none. When i checked the flexplate bolts for torque i turned the motor over by hand and it sounded like a spring winding in the area of the torque convertor tranny. It knocks loudly at idle but as i place it in gear and rev up slightly it disapates and then disappears totallyas i rev up.... as far as i can hear.. but returns at idle. I have a newly rebuilt 305 with crossfire FI and a mild cam with 10:1 pistons and stock heads. The motor sounds great and runs great. I was in an unusual position to have to drive it home 60 or so miles when i started hearing the knocking. Never lost power or oil pressure, the tranny fluid looks and smells fine, as well as the motor oil.

What could be the noise?? its to loud and scarry for me to drive it til its fixed.. Im lost as to whether it has snapped a band or the torque convertor has blown its guts??? I dunno Please help
