Ive read of guys using a Chevy S-10 converter for a higher stall. Do a search for torque converters, the answer is there.

Do not buy a B&M torque converter, unless you want a potential problem. There comeback rate is around 35%, and when they go they take the transmission with it. The S-10 or Corvette are the ones to use if you are going to stick with a 12" TC, and not wanting to spend much.

What about TCI's converters? I hear good things about their transmissions....

TCI makes good converters. I have used them in a couple of my cars and have given them both a pretty good beating. I'm running a TCI sizzler in my one TA now. It's more of a street converter with a bit higher stall but it works very well. $214 on Jegs.

Here we go again. Just like dont buy comp cams, edelbrock, or anything else people dont like. B&M converters are fine. Recommended by some, hated by some, it all depends on your experience.

I know I am bringing up a dead post, that I found while searching. But wouldnt you think an aftermarket TC would be better than a stock replacement one?? What is up with that.

I've personally never ran a B&M convertor but have a few buddies running them in their street strip rides with no problems. The TCI unit we installed in the truck last yr made 3 passes and lost a sprag and sent parts throughout the glide that then needed a complete rebuild. Tranny/convertor were all new built with application in mind. Sent the TCI convertor back on warranty and ordered a BTE for the truck since 80% of our racers here run them and our local tranny guy had a soft hit convertor in our desired rpm range on hand, the other 20% are ATI and then the TCI's come in last with a few other convertor manufactures in there too.

The BTE has performed flawlessly to date, the old TCI we got rebuilt now resides in my car and has worked great to date also with alot of abuse on a regular basis with street/strip driving and going off the transbrake. Preiviously I ran a Coan 2800 with my 700r4 and it worked great for footbrake class since it was so tight-wish it would've been a little looser though, then switched to a Jegs brand convertor when I updated to the TH350 and that convertor was an excellent value and performed great at the track and the street.

And yes so long as we hotrod cars there will be strong opinons when something does'nt work right or as expected, lots of times the begining of the problems starts with the guy buying/building them

that says it all right there .......most of the problems associated with a product are user error .....

My Torco (now owned by Art Carr) 9.5" converter is NICE especially for the price... $375 shipped to my door in less than week built to my specs. I dunno why anyone would wanna buy a TCI, B&M, or any other off-the-shelf converter for $375+ when they could go Torco

...Of course, I dont think Torco makes the same converter I'm talking about for 700R4's

Nothing against Torco/Art Carr, but a very close friends of ours from MN. meet with the owner and VP at a show in St. Louis and decided to buy a convertor from them-ordered to their cars specs. The first convertor they got had nowhere near the stall they talked about and wrote down so they sent it back (customer paid for shipping) and when they got it back the stall the second time after Art Carr "tweaked it" stall was beyond comprehension except for maybe a rail leaving around 5800!! So they now have a $700 paper weight and are not happy with the customer service at all since they again had to pay shipping since Art CArr would'nt work with them. The 3rd time they went with a BTE convertor and it worked right out of the box.

With a street car they maybe have hsome universal on the shelf items that will work well in a non specific application. Just forewarning about a personal experience with folks I know first hand.

Oh forgot to mention it was behind a 347Ford(stroked 302) with C4 tranny with brake.
