No magnet in Tranny pan

I jsut got a new chrome tranny pan with a drain plug btu it does not have a magnet in it. Is the magnet really necessary? Can i take the magnet out of my old pan? Or is there an after markert magnet i can put in?

Any input would be great

Does the old magnet just pop out? Also last time i changed it there was a gummy film over the magnet should i clean that film off or is it there for a reason.

Just clean it with some carb cleaner.

carb cleaner won't remove the metal shavings from the magnet.
you have to physically remove them with a rag or similiar

The "gummy film" on the magnet is friction materal from your clutch packs, as well as metal filings from your steels and hard internals.

It is common to find this on older transmissions, but its DEFINITELY nessesary to keep the magnet. The magnet attracts metal particles that could get caught up in the filter and clog the transmission badly. This is one cheap part you really want to keep.

I took out the magnet it wa easier then i thought i assumed it was tac welded in like the magnet in my differental cover it poped out easy put some TB cleaner on it wiped it with a rag and stuck it in the new pan. The new pan also has a magnet in the drain plug but its kinda small. I paid 12 bucks for the tranny pan on ebay it fit like a glove no modafacations needed bolt hols were perfect and it fit perfect. And the chrome on it was a deacent job. All i wanted was the drain plug.
