Question........
......Excuse my ignorance, but when a transmission slips, what exactly does this mean and what does the tranny do that indicates slipping?.........Zapr.

Isn't going into gear correctly. Your giving it gas and its revving higher than normal and finally jerks into gear. Im not sure on the technical parts because i've never torn into a automatic.

........My car will down shift from forth to third with part throttle and then go back and fourth between third and fourth unless I floor it or let off. Any idea what this might be? Thanks......Zapr.

What you're describing sounds more like a "flare", which is when it's shifting gears and it comes out of one gear and then there's a period where it feels like it's in neutral before it goes into the next gear.

it sounds to me like your going just fast enough for the tranny to want to kick into overdrive, but then it bogs down and takes itself back into third...you might wanna keep it in 3rd until you hit about 50 mph or 55mph and then put it into overdrive....
