Can anyone decode the numbers for my rearend?

I recently Climbed under my Camaro and looked at the axle housing on The passenger side. I came up with the following numbers:

6HS CO 24 1

I cant find any such numbers in my repair manual nor on any website. These are supposed to tell you the gear ratio ,right?

Well can anyone decode these numbers and let me know what they mean? Thanks so much

it would only tell the ratio the car left the factory with, not what's i nit now. you'd been time and effort ahead to pull the cover and look, it's the only 1005 accurate way to know what you have.

It's probably anywhere between 3:08- 3:73. It doesn't cost much and not to difficult to do. Two ways to make sure and one way to guess! When you remove the cover it might have the ratio stamped on the outside edge of the ring gear. If you can't find it or it's not there, you can count the teeth on the ring gear and the pinion and devide the ring by the pinion for the final ratio. An old trick to put you in the ball park is jack up the rear end, put a mark with chalk on the drive shaft and count the revolutions of the drive shaft compared to one rev. of the tire. Each rev. of the shaft is 100, so if it goes 3 rev. plus almost 1/2 that would be 3:42:1.
3 & 1/4 rev. would be close to 3:23"1 and so on! Hope this helps!
