I was driving my car down the road in overdrive, then it seemed like it popped out of gear, but then back into gear. I didn't think it was that big of a problem but along down the road it did it again. I tried to put it in regular drive but that didn't help so i pulled over. I put it in park and then in reverse and back out, then drove off and it was fine until it went to shift gears. I popped back out of gear and the engine stalled. So I put it in park and had to start it up again and try to drive home. It kept doing it so i tried putting it in nuetral then back in drive and that worked until it shifted again. Then it came back out of gear and i had to keep putting it in nuetral then back to drive to make it home. Is my transmission shot or whats the problem? It has plenty of transmission fluid. The trans has 178,000 miles on it but the motor only has about 13,000(replacement jasper engine) so I think the trans needs a good rebuild. PLEASE HELP

I don't know what's wrong with it but it IS at the end of it's useful life at 178,000 on the dial..
I would think it's trying to tell you it is very sick. A rebuild is likely the medicine it needs.

Should I get my trans rebuilt or just go with a brand new one? I don't go to the drag strip, when i get my license it'll be my daily driver but i still want something that can handle the power of my L98 So should I just get a good rebuild, or go with a brand new one? Any suggestions are welcome!

 

Brand new? Most "new" trannies are rebuilt anyways.

 

Get it rebuilt by a performance tranny shop. Have them install a shift kit and little things like a corvette servo. Just basic upgrading of the transmission so that it can handle the L98 no problem.
