Are these 2 the same???

Im swapping my old 700R4 out for a TH350 and I have a question. Are these two connectors the same? The top picture is from a TH350 long tailshaft tranny. And the one on the second post is from my old 700R4. What is this for/what does it do? Will the connector for my old 700R4 connect right into the one for the TH350 and work fine?

On the 700R4, that is the connector for the TCC solenoid. I believe that it is the same for the 350, however the wiring might be a little different although I don't think so.

The four pins on that connector are(not in any order)

(NOT IN ORDER) (NOT IN ORDER) (NOT IN ORDER)

1) Ground
2) TCC Solenoid Apply
3) 3rd Gear Switch
4) 4th Gear Switch

All transmissions don't have BOTH 3rd and 4th gear switches inside them.
Some have one or the other.
All 700R4's have lockup torque converters (I believe) and have the TCC control pin.

The 3rd and 4th switches signal back to the ECM when the transmissions is in those gears.
MOST have a 4th gear switch inside ONLY.

Some TH350's (older ones) had no lockup torque converters.
Those have no connector at all. (I believe)

Hope this helps.

Would it be better to use a turbo 350 that has no connector or the one i have that has a connector?

My personal opinion is:

I'd would PREFER a TH350 with the conector since that indicates the transmission is a later model that has the lockup circuitry inside.

Be SURE and get the correct torque converter to go with it.

Anyway if the transmission was designd for lockup that at least gives you the choice of using lockup or not using it.

Locking the torque converter is a great design advancement as far as mileage is concerned.

Anyway, I'd rather have it and not use it than not have it and want it.

But REAL preference would be a 700R4 with Lockup.

i am pretty sure they are the same as far as lockup goes. we would need more info as to what the 350 came out of & what it is going into to be certain.
with my 92 TPI setup in my 83 M/C with the stock T-350, lockup worked fine until the trans died. i now have a 700-r4 from a 92 pickup & its lockup works fine also, i did not re-pin either
connector.
with the stock 305 carbed system, without TCC i got around 180-190 per tank, with TCC i got around 240 - 260 per tank.
with the price of gas now, i would stay with TCC along with a 700-r4.
