Hurst trick shift dexron II
I have a TH700R4 with 127 000 miles on it. tranny shifts fine and does not slip.
I am about to change the fluid, and have aquired 8 quarts of Hurst trick shift from a mate (ultra cheap)
is this fluid ok for my trans (stock) it meets spec, but i have heard a story of someone who put it into a monte carlo and the trans died just afterwards.
any sugestions?

It is fine, by law you have to beable to use all transmission fluids in any transmission. It may not be the best but it will work. I here is performance ATF is very similar to Type-F.

I've seen a few cases of tranny's dying after a fluid flush. This is only an issue on high-mileage tranny's that haven't been properly maintained.....i.e. a 160k mile trans that's never been flushed in it's life (first one I ever saw die.)
If you have more than 100k on the original fluid, it runs a chance of dying.....no matter what fluid you use.

local US car specialist checked the tranny over, and gave it a perfect bill of health, driving down the road at both part and WOT, the shifts were perfect, and exactly right in terms of firmness etc.
also, they looked at the fluid, and reckoned there would be very little clutch degredation, simply because the fluid was discoloured through age, rather than through being contaminated with clutch dust, there is no particles in it at all, and they said the trans was very healthy.
They also checked the hurst recomendations, and said trick shift would be fine, and is probably a good insurance for a sound 700R4, because it is designd to keep trannys cool.

update - car now has 131 000 miles on it and it still seems fine.
question,
when shifting from 3rd to 4th at part throttle (doing about 60 mph), the rpm hovers around 2000 for about a second, then drops to about 1700. am i right in assuming this is the TCC locking up? if you run hard through the gears, 3 - 4 shifts fine.
after the RPM has dropped, there doesn't appear to be any slipage...
its always done this..
The fluid has aquired a tiny hint of dirt in it in 4000 mles, but its still blood red, i'm pretty sure this is just dirt flushing out of the valve body and converter..
