700R4 out of Suburban

i have an 88 Iroc-Z and i just put a modified 355 in it , well just my luck i spent a lot of money on the engine and now the transmission is starting to go out. a friend of mine has a 90 model suburban with a rebuilt 700r4 in it that has maybe 5k miles on it and he said we could work somethin out cuz the motor is shot in his. i was wanting to know if everything is the same besides the tailshafts obviously and if the torque converters and filters are the same for each. I appreciate all the help, thanks.

When i called my J/Y for a 700r4 they had one from a truck. They said it would have to be sold as a changeover sale( multipul things to change) and wouldnt warranty it due to the changeover.
I bought my new tranny for $150 from here with only 88,000 miles. Point being that they can be had for cheap with under 100,000 miles and no modification. Also they are plentiful.

only things that need to be changed are the tailshaft, TV cable, and maybe the governor (if the shift points are too low).

if i remember right, chevy went to high res electronic speed sensors in the trucks around 88 or so, so when you have the tail shaft housing off, you will need to pull the reluctor off the truck trans & put the gear on it from the trans in your car, or go ahead & get a new set of gears that match the ones in your car which would probably be best as those plastic gears do wear out & the one on the shaft may break when you try to remove it.
