What's in my rear diff?
My car is a 1992 camaro, 3.1 V6, TH 700-R4 transmission.....Pretty sure its 10-bolt. It's not a posi. The question is, what's in my differential? My Haynes manual says I should find a letter/number code on the front of the passenger side axle housing, to match up with part numbers in the manual, but the problem is, the housing is so rusty that no ammount of wire brushing will bring it to the surface. Does anybody know whats in there? If you can, give me as much info as possible....Spline #?, C-clip?, Fluid capacity?.....anything.

If the rear is the original there are 28 spline axles, C-clips, 3.23 ratio, fluid cap is a little under 2 qts. The ring gear is 7-5/8" diameter, with 10 left hand bolts holding it to the open carrier.
The rear code may also be found on the inside of the glovebox lid under the hatch.
And welcome aboard. . .

Thanks PRob.... Thats exactlly what I needed. The Glovebox under the hatch? You mean the one with the lock on it? I remember seeing a sticker that said "do not remove, parts identification codes", or something like that.....
Much appreciated
