help me get it moving PLEASE!!!

ok guy i recently posted a topic and determined my problem to be that the TC wasnt seated right. so we dropped the tranny yesterday, pulled the TC off checked it out everything looked good, slid it back on seated it (actually heard the 3 clicks i was told bout) and bolted the tranny back up, then bolted the TC, filled her up with fluid, and started up and the same is happening. so we revved it up in gear and everything for a while to make sure that it wasnt jus airlocked, and still nothing. tranny has the proper amount of fluid in it and the TC was filled before instalation. shifter cable and everything is working fine the tranny just wont do anything when put in gear, the engine dosent even bog down like a load is being put on it. i find it hard to imagine that anything is wrong mechanically with the tranny seeing as it worked perfect before i pulled it and it only sat for a week until the new engine was ready and we dropped it in. this was a swap from TBI to carb and all computer control was eliminated (new guages fuel pump ect....) Is there something really easy that im overlooking?? i messed with the TV cable got it set right and still nothing, car starts perfect and runs fine but this is driving me nuts cuz im dying to let that new motor run wide open on the road please help me guys thanks - jon

Thats an odd one.

Your sure when you shift the transmission is going into gear, lever on the bottem is moving. If so pull the pan and see if something came loose. The detent roller spring may have poped off (somehow) or the pressure regulator valve may have came loose. I cant say Ive seen any problems like your having unless the transmission was messed with when it was out.

When you installed the trans were there any problems or did it pop right in?

i prolly put over a quart in the TC before we installed it and the tranny pretty much went back in without a hitch (had 3 people helpin me) Ill pull the pan today and see what things look like, and yes the shifter does move the tranny into gear, we even took it off and moved it by hand on the tranny to make sure any other ideas guys?

Besides the two I mentioned above. There are a few other things but usually a tq converter or front pump just dont go bad from removing the transmission. When you drop the pan also make sure the filter is on good. It could have sliped off durring removal but usually there in enough fluid at the top to move the car a few feet.

You should be able to put at least 3 qts in the TC before installing it.

A dry 700 should take a good 11 - 11½ qts to fill up including those.

How much fluid have you put in it so far?

You may also have the wrong converter splines to match your trans input shaft.

id say i have roughly 10 qts in the tranny now and the TC was stock with the tranny so its not the wrong splines, ill check the filter tomarrow when i drop the pan maybe ill get a better look at things and find something wrong but at the moment im still stumped thanks guys keep the ideas coming - jon
