TC size... whats the difference?

Transmission: Pro-Built 700R4/Vig.2400
Axle/Gears: 3.27 BW 9 Bolt PBR Disc
TC size... whats the difference?
I was reading some people saying go with a 9.5" TC and other says things like yeah im stuck with a 12" model. I am guessing smaller diameter is better here? Can someone clue me in? Thanks
