I swapped in a T56 over last winter....Trans works great shifts smooth, no complaints...however...I have noticed a little gear whine in 5th gear only when I take my foot off the gas. Normal? Also, when I first start the car up and the motor is running a little rough, ie. shaking a little, I can hear a rattling sound coming from the trans. This is only when the trans is in neutral. It sounds like the gears inside are rattling? The trans is full of freash fluid too. Does this sound normal?

The rattling sound is normal for any manual trans. It's from the gears sort of banging back and forth against the engine torque.

As far as the whine in 5th, I guess that depends on how much whine it is. Mine doesn't really whine at all. If it's only in 5th, and not too bad, I wouldn't worry about it.

I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some common knowledge thing like"Oh my...gears rattling in T56...tel-tale signs.....she's about to blow!" kind thing.

The gear whine in 5th is ever so slight.....took a while for, even me, to hear it.
