Tranny Fluid Temp Gauge

There are companies selling Tranny fluid temp gauges that use a sensor mounted in the pan of the trans.
I have an extra mechanical engine temp ga that's been around for years.
Would it be a good idea to mount the sensor of that into the pan of my tranny to monitor the fluid temp?

You could, as long as the sensor is small enough.

I was given an oil temp gage a few months ago. The sensor end was identical to every mechanical water temp gage I've seen.

You might not have enough high temp range using a water temp gage in the tranny pan.

I think it'd probably be good enough, my ATF never gets over 200 or so with the sender in the pan. Certainly better than nothing, anyway.

Excellent, Thanks

I was looking for the site where I saw a pan mounted temp sender and I couldn't locate it.
IIRC they we're saying that the pan temp is roughly 15deg cooler than the temp within the converter.
My temp ga tops out @ 280. So I'll mount this sender in my pan and just make mental adjustments based on that.

i think the pan being 15 degrees cooler than the converter is probably on the low side unless they are talking about when the converter is locked. unlocked & under a load the converter makes a ton of heat & the fluid turn over isn't all that high in it.

Would there be a better place to mount a fluid temp ga besides the pan, as long as I have my trans out?

About the only other place to mount it where there would be any flow past it would be in one of the cooler lines, but you'd have to figure out a way to mount it.
