700R4 ?'s
Im currently looking to either rebuild my stock 700R4 or go with a new TCI trans.. I inquired at a shop for a rebuild they quoted me $1,800 with new raybestos heavy duty materials, 2,000rpm TCI converter, vette servo, and a TransGo shiftkit. Where as I could get a new Street Fighter Trans from TCI for around $1,500. Im assuming this is minus the converter so it would be costing me the same either way. Just wondering what yall thought and maybe what route i should go. I want something that will be able to handle a 383.

trans
i had mine built for $750. it was a bench job but from what i hear alot of trans guys are getting away from doing that for warrenty reasons. i had the heavy duty clutch. 2500 stall, corvette servo. dont know what kindof power i had then but it worked out fine. had a 355 heads cam motor. it was in a 92 chevy truck ext cab step side and ran a 14.6 or 7 can remeber. but its a tow truck so i took the stall out. its for sale if your interested.

Also look into Pro-Built Automatics. Possibly the best out there.
I looked into having this done too. My guy quoted $1700 for a performance rebuild with all the heavy duty stuff, vette servos, 2500 stall etc. etc. This included intallation.
Hawk's Thirdgen will rebuild the trans. in a similar fashion for just under $1000, including a precision industries 2000-2200 stall. NOT installed.
There's no doubt in my mind that a Pro-built is the way I'd prefer to go, I just can't afford it right now.
Two different trans shops told me that if the trans was built properly, power (within reason) was not an issue, but rather how the car was driven. Makes sense to me.
