Governor Gear
I have only got first gear (and reverse) right now.
It shifts easily, no grinding.
I have pics of my Governor gear but I can't figure out how to attach a file.
Why are the 2 springs not the same?
You can see 1 spring has 3 coils the other has 6 ... WHY?
The plastic gear at the end looks okay, nothing cracked or shaved away.
The fluid was changed and filter replaced.
There were NO metal shavings or sludge of any kind in the oil.
However, there seems to be a burnt smell from the Governor gear once I had it out.
I tried forcing 2nd or 3rd gear and it still would not shift.
It does seem to slip in and out of first when I took it around the block.
Maybe this link will work.

it may not be the governor, and the springs usually are different depending on calibration.you must turn the governor upside down and move the primary weights in and out to see if the governor regulaor valve moves in and out.sometimes you can unstick it while driving by placing the selector into drive while coasting at 5 mphour in reverse.this will shock the governor valve and sometimes unstick it .if it is not stuck and the gear is driving the governor, the governor screen may be clogged or the tv valve in the valve body is stuck .if this is the case you should get a shift at wot only from 1 to 2 etc.try shutting off the car, disconnecting the tv cable and pulling it in and out 20 times .it may unstick the valve.
That will not unstick a stuck governor valve. And this only worked on Ford C-4 & C-6's, and you did this by putting up the rear wheels go about 20 mph and throw it into park for about 1/2 - 1 second, & then back to neutral fast. This did not always work, and only after a fresh rebuild would this work. You will have to remove it to check it out. I would not try the idea.

So what are my options from here?
Is this repairable or what?
This tranny was supposedly completely built up 2 years ago.
heavy duty everything, shift kit, corvette servos, yadda, yadda.
$1200.00
I've got a friend who owns a salvage yard.
He's got a 700R4 from a 80's van that the engine was in the front seat.
He said $350.00.
He thinks it is in good shape.
What would you do?
