The tranny should "basically" be rock solid against the crossmember. If you're under the car, and try to push the tailshaft (back) of the trans up towards the sky, and it moves, then the trans mount is bad. (Everything hinges on the motor mounts so if the trans mount is bad, the trans will push up easily.) Either $15 at the local store for a new rubber mount that will break in a few years, or $20 at http://www.summitracing.com for the Energy Suspension GM Trans Mount (look under the Chassis section of the online catalog), and that ES mount won't break.

Yeah it moves up and down. Could this be what is causing the studdering in 2nd gr where it jerks the car back and fourth?Yeah I will get a good one. I do have a five speed if that matters any. How hard is it to change? Thanks tom p

its cake to change. Its been a while for me, but you could probably do it in less than an hour.
