shifter lock pin

hi everyone!I'm new here and i need help with my auto shifter. The problem is that it dosen't lock into place no more,i can go from park to low 1 without pressing the button.I remove the console(plastic cover)and realised that the little u-clip under the plastic cable as fallen down and i'm not able to put it back in place,it dosen't stay there.Does anyone had that problem before?Any help/suggestion would be great.

great website very helpfull thanks

Is this the clip that you are talking about? Take the old one and go to the dealership and see if they can get you a new one or try the auto parts stores. Other wise you will need to buy the whole cable or hope to find a servicable one in the junkyard.

no it's a steel u-pin that goes up and down at the bottom of the shiftstick to lock/unlock the shifter. It got threads on it.

There's a plastic rod inside the lever that is supposed to push on it won't stay in place.

The shifter **** is missing,too.

This car was parked for 6 years and the previous owner made some weird modification to it for least to say.

So maybe he to fix it himself

You could just get another shifter assembly from a junkyard if yours is missing lots of pieces. The console is sort of a pain to remove but in about an hour you could have a new fully fully finctional shifter in.
