T5 grinds on the downshift from 2-3....is it the internal gears or could it just be the clutch is bad?

if your clutch is infact releasing fully like it should then there is a good chance your syncro ring is worn. I have taken t-5's and t-56's ect. for worn syncros. it will be fine but, don't race it or put too many miles on it or you will damage the gear and slider ring

okay well i just wanted to check with you guys. its from a 86 TA and its in the local classifieds...i am gonna buy it tomorrow since its only 100bucks and then check out the clutch and maybe the syncro...

i have a camaro that was orgionally v6 5spd, and was swapped to 305 auto and i am swapping the auto for a v8 5-spd, i have been looking for a t5 for a long while now locally and this is the first one. i'll call the guy tomorrow to see what he thinks of it..

i am new the these standard's, i know how to drive them, and thats it...and i know that they have clutches which i have burned up from previous cars.

Manuals are cake to rebuild. Very simple, straightforward, and cheap if your hardparts are in good shape. If it's gonna be your first one to tear into, just take your time with it and have an "exploded view" diagram handy. A digital cam is also your friend
