Transmission Flush?

I have a transmission leak. I'm going to look at it this week. Since I'm already going to have to remove the pan, I just want to ask you guys what all I would need as far as a transmission flush etc?

I know I need transmission fluid, but since I'm down there what else should I replace?

I'm using Mobile 1 Full Synthetic Dexron III.

If you're taking the pan off anyway go ahead and change the filter...it probably needs it anyway. But before you drop the pan, take a good look and make sure that's where the leak is. The dipstick grommet and the tailshaft seal are much more common in my experience.

Also keep this in mind: when you drop the pan and refill the tranny you aren't changing all the fluid. In fact, you're not even getting close to half of it. I'm not sure exactly what the capacity of a 700-R4 is, but I think it's in the 3.5 gallon (14 quart) range. By draining the pan and refilling you'll be changing less than 4 quarts of fluid, so when you check the stick and the fluid is still dirty, don't be surprised.

Just FYI.
