Ouch! Loud Clunk When Put In Gear....
Well, since I've gotten the car, it has been making this small tinking noise when I go over bumps. I tried to see if there was anything loose under there, but all I saw was the (drum) brake cable hitting on the panhard bar(?).
On my way home from work last night, the car started making this horrible metal clunking noise if I am going over like, speed bumps. It also does it when I start out from a stop, and ocassionally when I put it in gear. I can hear it in the rear of the car.
Would bad u-joints make this kind of noise?

Hey, just an update on what I've found out...
I finally went out and spent the like $35 for a jack and pair of 2ton stands. Walmart special, but hey, they work
I crawled under there and saw that the clamshell looking thing for my transmission torque arm had somehow lost one of the nuts holding it. On top of that, there must have been a smaller bolt that threads right through the 2 pieces of the clamshell looking mount, holding it together. Well that bolt was gone completely. So I was down one bolt and one nut. The rubber isolator(?) was almost out of the steel mount altogether!
So I pressed and squeezed around with it, until I got the isolator back in place. Then I went inside and rummaged around to see if I could find another nut the right size/pitch, but couldn't. So I stole one off of the bracket that holds the cat up to the trans until I could get to work. Now I have replaced that with a locking type metal nut, that has the ridges built into it, to lock it in. Hopefully I won't have to worry about that part anytime soon.
I checked the play of the U joints while I was under there, and for having 120,000 miles, they feel pretty good.
