piece of crap automatic
a buddy of mine has had problems w/ every 3rd gen he's had. the were automatics and they all slipped and leaked and were pieces of crap.
He wants to know if weak automatics are common in 3rd gens.
I keep telling him to ditch it and put a 5 speed in it, but he wont listen to me
Well, the problem is that if it's in drive and he's starting from a dead stop, it makes a strange noise like somethings grinding or two metal things are hitting each other.
So now he has to put it in first to start, he cant just leave it in drive anymore.
Is the trans too far gone to fix w/ some parts store trans repair stuff? Or do ya think that it's time to rebuild, or buy a new one.

definatly not a trans expert but id hazard at the low-roller clutch being bad since sticking it in first allows the car to start. Id jsut get a good rebuilt 700, or if he doesnt abuse the car a t-5 would also work.
