700r4 help

i have a bowtie 700r4 level2. i was driving about 35when i noticed smoke behind me. it lost power so i turned the key off and put it in neutral and coasted to a stop. when i drove back to see how far i had driven with it throwing oil it was about 1/2 mile or less. the line going into radiator came off. i could smell burnt oil on the dipstick but it wasnt real bad. i replaced it with oil and the it went into all gears fine but i did not drive it out of driveway. my question is has this happened to anyone else and could i have destroyed my tranny that has less than 300 miles on it? any thing else i need to check before driving?
