There's quite a few ways of doing it.

1) You could drill and tap the pan for the sender

2) Buy one of those B&M drain plug kits, then go to a hardware store and get an adapter that will screw into the drain plug hole, and sender screws into adapater

3) cut transmission cooler out line, install a T in it and put your sender there.

I went with #3 on mine.

About 4" from where the line goes into the trans, I cut the metal line, went to ace hardware with my temp sender and a pc. of rubber trans cooler hose.

Found a triple female T, that my sender would thread into, then got 2 2" long double male threaded nipples (pipes) that screws into the T, and my rubber hose would go on (force fit, tight fit, but thats good)

Came home cut out 6" lenght of the metal cooler line, screwed the nipples into the T, screwed my sender into the T, put a short pc. of rubber tranny cooler hose on each nipple. Put 3 worm gear hose clamps on.. 1 close to where the sender screws in. This is to hook a ground wire too, 1 on each end of the nipple/ruber hose,

Then slid a clamp on the other ends of the rubber, and slid the rubber over the metal cooler line. Tighten the 4 clamps that holds the rubber to the metal lines and T nipples.

Ran one 16 ga. wire from the fire wall ground, down to the T, and put that wire in between the T and that third hose clamp, tighten that clamp.

Ran one 16 ga. wire from trans temp gauge down to the T, and put it on the sender.

Works great, no leaks out of mine and I done this on my 73 c-10, and my 88 camaro.

Just make sure you put it on the OUT line, and as close to the tranny as you can. That away you pick up the next to hottest temp (hottest would be in the pan) but the temp diff from in the fan and leaving the tranny will be less than 10* anyway
