Hanging trans off an engine stand?
Hey, just a quick question:
Its ok to hang a trans off an engine stand, right? I mean, bolt the bellhousing to the trans, and then bolt the bellhousing to the engine stand, the same way it would bolt to the block. Is it ok to do this, since there is no support under the tail end of the trans?
I just recently got a ST10 for my Camaro, and I'd Like to put it up on my engine stand so I can check it over and clean it up a bit. IMO, it would just make it easier.

Its holding the rear of the engine up when its in the car so I would imagine that the case should be strong enough to support the transmissions own weight.

Yeah, but let's not forget there is usually a trans x-member supporting the trans when it's installed so it's not hanging from the bellhousing normally.
But that's not saying it won't work on an engine stand either...

Itll be fine. Actually, the 55-57 Chevys didnt even have a trans crossmember. I know that for a fact. Ive hung many by the bellhousing and even by the pan rail.
