3.42 posi "help"

i just bought a 79 Trans Am, and the previous owner just put in

3.42 gears in the differential...i want to know if thats a good gear ratio if i want to put in a pontiac 400 with a 400 transmission to burn some rubber, and drive pretty good, and have a fast take off...can somebody help me out....thanks!

Very vauge question. In my "opinion" 3.42 is a good all around ratio. Others may disagree. State the intended purpose for the car and you will likely get more input.
