Anchor Transmission mounts

After realizing my tranny mount could be broken (thanks boards), I looked and sure enough its destroyed.
I bought the el-cheapo Anchor 2394 (maybe 2934) $7.99 Autozone special tranny mount.

I know, I know, get the poly. I will. I've never done a tranny mount before and I figured I'd break the cheap one first, I'll get the poly energy suspension part in a week.

This cheap Anchor part has a rubbery "peg" where it would appear from other posts, and pics, there should be a bolt with a nut on it.

Did I get the wrong part somehow?

First, I'm not going to tell you you should have gotten the poly mount. The mount you broke lasted 16 years, and probably failed due to expose to the elements and the degradation of the rubber rather than due to the design. I've actually swapped vehicles to poly, and then swapped back to rubber because of vibrations and poor driveline angles.

A stock car needs stock parts. A poly mount really doesn't buy you anything for the additional money. In fact I know several racers who run poly or solid motor mounts and a stock trans mount.

The mount should have two studs, or two threaded holes for bolts (the stock mount uses studs, but a lot of repalcements just have tapped holes and you will need to source some bolts). Changing the trans mount is very easy. It'll take you longer to get the car up on jackstands than it will to change it.

The "peg" is probably just a rubber cap over the stud to protect the threads. See if it will pull off.

Yeah, sometimes the rubber is just molded over the studs too on parts store mounts. I've had to clean the rubber off the threads on a wire wheel before. That's not uncommon.

i just got one of these trans mounts for my 84 pickup and it was 7.99 one too, its holding up great, the old one broke a couple weeks ago when i was swapping in the 350 engine,

it lasted since 84 til recently, new one will hold up another 20+ years im sure

autozone didnt give me a nut to go on the stud though! bastards! i had to go find one, it was metric and a PITA to find one took forever digging through my hardware stashes to find one that fit right

had to torch off the original, the stud was busted loose in the mount rubber, it was old rotten worn out,

its normal

so dont worry about the new one,

go and run it

good luck

It is not Auto Zones fault for the mount to not come with a nut. So please don't call them harsh names. How often do replacement parts come with hardware anyway?, not very often.

That depends on what you get, and who manufactured it. Most Delco ignition modules come with new bolts. The cheap reman water pump I put on an '82 Regal at work today came with new studs for the pulley/fan. The better brake pads (i.e. Wagner thermo-quiet) come with new anti-rattle clips. A lot of the thermostats for newer vehicles come with the O-ring already on the 'stat.

Energy Suspension tranny mounts come with hardware, last time I checked.

And in a sense it is AutoZone's fault....for carrying the cheapest parts they can find.

All new parts should come with all new hardware, and it should be stainless steel. Wouldn't that be great? I'd pay just a bit more for that.
