trans gurus: '97 4 speed auto, whirring noise in park, rev., neutral
got a 97 4 speed auto and week ago it lost overdrive and was slipping higher RPM and then lost reverse and now it has good drive but in park and reverse and neutral it has a wierd constant non-metallic whir spinning noise,
flid is bright red great shape no smell, and in drive the noise quits immediately and it grabs forward fine,
what do you think ?
ths is in a 2wd C-1500 chevy pickup, BTW
i dont have a clue where else to ask but the gurus on here, cuz i know there are a few here
i got a qote of 1,095 bucks to rebuild it and test it and warranty it, it is a one year application, 97 extended cab 2wd with 5.7L, theres only two good used ones in the whole state of IL, both for 850 each plus 100 ship, so,.,
this is a baby driven truck, old man driven, not a single smoke ever been in the truck not a single scratch on it either, never spun a tire ever in it,
theres no excuse for this to have happened,
is there a known issue with later 90s auto o/d's ?
i am unaware of such,
so are the shops i called
thanks
