Hey guys I just found out that I need a speed sensor for my 82 t/a due to my speedometer and odometer not working and my car throwing a code 24.Does anyone know if i can still you the same type of speed sensor for my car.Even tho I just swapped in a th-350 trans.Any help would be great thanks

 

Your '82 should be a cable driven speedometer. The VSS is in the instrument cluster. If the speedometer isn't working now, and was working before the th350 swap, check the gears in the trans. There is a drive gear on the shaft and a driven gear on the 'bullet' then goes into the side of the trans.

If the speedometer didn't work before the swap then check the cable.

Fix your speedo gears / cable and then the code 24 will go away.

 

82 had a speedometer transducer mounted on the strut tower, the VSS wont make the speedo stop working, my cars transducer went out and everything stopped working and instant code 24

 

So it is my vss thats gone bad ? After the trans swap everything worked fine until last weekend.First the speedometer and odemter stopped working then when I drive on the highway the engine light comes on.I thought it might be the lower speedometer cable ???
