700r4 prolems?

I have a rebuilt 700r4 with about 5K miles on it. I have been relatively easy on it since I had to rebuild my engine this summer. Today, I noticed my car felt as if it was slipping out of gear, the it got worse. It would shift from 1-2 then as soon as i got it up to about 30mph, it felt as if it slipped into N? the car would not go over 30mph. I had to limp it home for a few miles, but did seem to get it home. Fluid level was fine. Now another strange thing was if I jumped on the throttle, it would engage in gear but not want to shift into the next gear? I re-adjusted my detent cable which allowed me to take the car up to 38mph, then, nothing,,,,the big N. Car would rev, but not move?

Any Ideas? PLEASE

Hopefully it is still under warantee. Sounds like it is toast.

Floor Guy,

Hey, I purchased my stage 3 hiperformance 700r4 from a company called netgearheads off of ebay. They had tons of "good praises" behind their name. Well, they are out of buisiness and my tranny guy told me that by the looks of the internals.....they had no idea what they were doing! Turns out the band that holds the 1-2 shift was out of round and was most likley the cause of the failure. The tranny was made of mostly good parts, but just slapped to gether. The clearances were way off and the sun drum was only a stock part. No matter, now that my tranny is out, I know it's going to be assembled to handle a ton of HP and it's going to be done right! The guy who is rebuild it is also going to put a Z pack of clutches in my tranny, (10 clutches instead of 7). I got this old hot roder who really know's his stuff & builds 700's for high hp applications, gonna cost me 700$. I was saving that $$$ for my ford 9 inch Guess that's gonna wait Anyway, just wanted to keep you updated on what was up with my tranny. thanks for the help!

Use care regarding additional clutch plates. More plates = thinner steels. This makes them more likely to warp under high power levels. Match the plates to your projected power output. Unfortunately you have no choice but to trust the trans builder. Hopefully he will make the right choice for you.

Yea, i really trust this guy. He specializes in chevy's and 700r4's. he has built quiet a few for a few local grand national's in the area, and a lot of high hp applications with setup's as mine. PLus, once I have my tranny build by him, all reapairs will only cost me my time of removal of the tranny and parts, so he backs his work.
