We have a 4cyl, 4spd, 83 Camaro Sport Coupe. It has the original 4spd still in it. The shifter linkage binds just about all the time, and we are looking at getting new linkage for it. The console and interior have been replaced, so no RPO codes. What transmission is this thing? Gm can no longer get the shifter or rods. So I was thinking about going with a Hurst shifter for it. Since I have no Idea what 4spd it is, how do I know what Linkage/shifter I'm going to need. I need some sort of help, we are looking at selling the car here soon and its just about undriveable with the shifter locking up on you at every other stop light. Where can I go to get a new shifter? I'm starting to pull my hair out over this thing, because no one even believes me that they put 4 speeds let alone 4 cylinders in these cars. I just want it so we can drive it.

AFAIK you can order all of that from Summit, Jegs, maybe your local speed shop if they carry Hurst, etc. Don't bet on it being in stock. But you never know, you might get lucky.

 

when I go through the dealer tell them its a 4cyl 4spd they say its rpo M26, which is a muncie tranny. This is why I hate 4cylinder cars... So freaken hard to find anything for.
