transmision slipping on92 rs tbi

hi

I was driving my car today and for the first time I heard a noise coming form under the arm rest, I made a turn and then push hard on the gas and has the transmission geared down I heard a transmision slipping sound, to me it sounds like one of the mounts on the transmisiion or 2 are dead and I m goign to drive it easy until I get some feedback from you to see what I should do about it

thanks for the help in advance

cedric

Ok well first of all how do you hear a transmission slipping? Did the revs shoot up? Car shudder?

Secondly, and believe me, you will hear this a LOT, it sounds a lot like the mount to me. Replace it. And there is only one. Replace it with a poly one, it's worth the extra money.

thanks, can I do this without lifting the car or should I take it to a mechanic, how long do you think it would take to install it? (I dont want the guy to charge me 3hours of labor if it takes 5 minutes !! they love doing that)

do you have a link for that poly mount to a store ??

thanks goodnight

Sure thing. Here's the mount: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...=KeywordSearch

And it took me less than five minutes, but I had shop facilities.

Here's what you do:

-jack the vehicle up (I used a 2 post hoist )

-place a jack under the transmission pan, and be sure to ude a 2x4 or something to prevent damage to the pan (I used a trans jack and some 4x2)

-loosen the nut that goes from the mount to the crossmember (I had to use an impact gun to get it off)

-jack up the trans a few inches so the bolt will clear the hole in the crossmember

-remove the 2 bolts holding the mount to the trans and remove the mount

-install new mount in the reverse procedure, torque it to spec

-lower vehicle

-dance

Like I said, it took me 5 minutes with all shop facilities at my disposal. I'd say walk if they want anything more than twenty bucks. And ask for the old one back.
