Tranny Swapping - got a question
I'm getting ready to pull my WC T-5 out and get it beefed up. So I picked up another WC T-5 with only about 10 miles on the rebuild (which included a new master rebuild kit). I plan to use it gingerly for a couple of weeks while mine gets rebuilt, then sell it once I put my beefed up tranny back in.
Here's my planned swapping procedures, and I'd like to see if anyone can see a problem with my planned approach. Also - please point out any potential problems or pitfalls with this idea:
1. Pull original T-5 off bell housing and put in shipping crate.
2. Pull bell housing, clutch, and flywheel. Take flywheel to shop for resurfacing.
3. Install new CFDF clutch, throw out bearing, re-surfaced flywheel, and bell housing. Use an old T-5 mainshaft to make sure everything is lined up properly instead of plastic clutch tool. Pilot bushing was changed to a bearing less than a year ago, so not changing it.
4. Install newly rebuilt T-5 (the second one) to bell housing, and attach torque arm, shifter, etc.
5. When the beefed up T-5 comes back, I plan to just drop the second T-5 off the bell housing and bolt up the beefed up one. I'm not planning to pull the bell housing the 2nd time around.
Does anyone see any problems with this approach? Seems like it would sure make the second swap when I re-install my beefed up T-5 go a lot quicker and easier.....
So - what am I missing?

I don't see a problem with it. I can swap the trans in my car in less than 2 hours, and I'm not real fast, like a professional or anything; so I'd say it's hardly even an inconvenience, let alone an obstacle, if that's what you want to do.
