clunking sound, feels like trans/motor mount but isnt

for a few weeks i've had this clunking in my car under hard acceleration, and for a few months, theres been huge amounts of wheel hop when i spin the tires in reverse, but at first it would take a flogging in the forward gears without any sign of clunking or hop. it feels just like a transmission mount, i had that go out on my old camaro, and it felt the same, so the first thing i did was get an energy suspension transmission mount. after i put that on, there was massive vibration, revving it in park would rattle things in the car and felt very bad, and it didnt fix the clunk, so i put the stock one back on, then replaced the motor mounts, which was a major PITA, after a local "speed shop" charged me 65 bucks to tell me it was the motor mounts. any ideas what could cause that type of clunk besides the mounts, and any other bad experiences with the energy poly transmission/motor mounts?

Yes...the torque arm mount on the trans....or a bad u-joint. The bad torque arm bushing would be felt under hard acceleration.

how do i go about checking the torque arm mount? i'm pretty sure the u-joint is alright, i can turn the driveshaft maybe a 1/4 inch side to side, but everything seems tight back there. could a torque arm cause the wheel hop in reverse? i've never noticed any wheel hop in the forward gears.
