custom t56 crossmember

anyone ever make their own crossmember? I am using a 97 t-56 (stock driveshaft etc..) .. want to make my own crossmember since it will cost me about double the price to get one accross the border.. shipping etc..

was wondering if anyone has some insight..
measurements..
how high the transmission sits.
materials used .. etc..

im thinking 3/16 plate for the base... reinforced with some small sq tubing.. maybe 3/4 or 1" .. then use 1/8.. maybe 3/16 angle for the side pieces..

anyone share their design?

thanks

I think you have the right Idea. just use channel stock for under the trans mount and then flat stock on the sides. If you can find large angle iron (doubt it ) for the sides would be great.
