pinion bearing

hey guys need some advice,i've got a '88 gta getting the pinion bearing replaced because the previous owner put the wrong ones in.my questin is this ,my mechanic who is doing the job told me he had a hard time finding the bearing,n that nobody makes them no more ,he managed to find a supplier who had it an got one set.if the bearing are hard to find (rare) shuold i be thinking of a different rearend when the bearing goes again.i've got a 9 bolt rear end.
my next question is how rare is my rear end
borg warner 7 3/4 ring gear ,9 bolt,3.27 ratio automatic
i'm asking because i'm from ontario,canada, i called gm canada and they are telling about 1000 or less shipped to canada,please help
its a '88 gta 5.7 ltre tuned port

Ummmm..... I don't think so. Bearings are EXTREMELY specific by shaft and bore diameters, and thickness; it's all but impossible to get the wrong one to install, without being REALLY obvious and stupid. If anybody is trying to tell you that, then they're covering up for something else.

Last time I was in a NAPA buying bearings for a rear end, they had the ones that fit 9-bolt (GM 7.75" is how they're listed in their catalog) in stock, sitting on their shelf. Saw them with my own eyes.

Try them.
