changing axles??????

Hi, I have a 85 z-28 iroc, The car have rear brake disk and I want to change the axles now 26 splines for 28 splines.(I have a new carrier 28 splines also)
My question is, the axles from a drum brake camaro with 28 splines can fit ???are they the same????.
Thank you very much in advance
Alex

If you stay within 3rd gen 28 spline axles then you will be fine. Don't use 4th gen axles or your brakes won't bolt up right.

I'm not sure about factory axles but aftermarket ones are the same. Worst case is that you'll need to grind out the center of the rotor slightly to fit over the axle center flange. It might just be a tight fit. Other than that, length, flange position etc are all the same.

Now I am trying to figure out how they could be the same. I'ts common knowledge that a 4th gen rear is wider than a 3rd. I haven't measured it personally.

The carriers are the same width, they are interchangable.
The C clamps are engaged in the same place, therefore the outside distance/axle length would have to be different. That would determine the overall lenght from hub to hub.

I never mentioned 4th gen and they were never asked in the original post. 4th gen axles are longer and can't be used in a third gen housing. A third gen 28 spline axle from a 90-92 can be upgraded to any third gen 10 bolt housing.
