Rear end question
I currently have an 88 Camaro m5 with the 3.08 open rear end. I want to go with 3.42's and posi but I am not sure which route I should take.
Should I just find a used rear end from an IROC or something
or
Upgrade mine to posi and 3.42's. I know I have the 26-spline axles so I don't know how much harder stuff is to find for them.
Any suggestions??

26 spline axles are kind of on the weak side. 3.42's is a good gear, but you might consider 3.73. As for axles you have a couple choices. You could go the aftermarket route but that adds up fast. As for stock, 89 was the change over year. 89 and newer 7.5 10 bolts have 28 spline axles. If you chould find a wrecked 89 to 92 camaro or firebird they would have those axles. A stock posi is hard to find. A after market posi like Eaton or limited slip like Auburn will cost you around $400-$500. Hope this helps

If I change over to 28 spline axles I think I can get the $99 posi unit from SLP correct??? Maybe I will scavange some junk yards for ethier the axles or the whole rear end.

That would be great; except that SLP ran out of those about a year ago. And of course they're not getting any more in ..... ever. Unless a long string of events happens to happen to cause them to become available again.
90-92 is really the years to look for. Very very few 89s seem to have th enewer axles. At least 80% of people on this board that have taken theirs apart, report finding 26s.
Alternatively, you can get new ones. These are the best choice I know of; better than a "custom" axle such as a Moser, for a stock configuration. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...SAG%2DEV10%2D4

Man, those axles are pretty expensive. I think I could get a complete rear end used for that. I am gonna have to start digging around. Thanks for all the help.
